It's a 350MB download, so broadband is definately recommended.

I've been on this game for faaaar too long after work. It's so addictive if you're into RPG's, plus it's free!

A word of warning though, once you get into it, stay away from the "cash shop" as it has items in there that require real money to buy ($10 for 10,000 NX cashpoints) and you might be tempted to pull out the credit card.

History

Subspace is an old 2 dimensional online space fighting game played over an internet connection. The game Subspace was developed by Virgin Interactive Entertainment (VIE). Sniper the project’s name back in 1995 was renamed to Subspace, now remade by Priitk (owner and System Operator of SSCU Trench Wars) into Continuum, VIE gave up on the games development in 1997 and turned their servers off a year later. The retail CD was cracked along with the server software allowing just about anyone to make a server. This lead to rampant cheating and abuse, and also didn’t allow for any kind of centralized control to update the client and keep the cheaters out. The Subspace council (SSC) took over and now maintains a player database which Trench Wars the zone/server is connected to. In 2001 the players Priitk and Mr Ekted reverse-engineered the client subspace into Continuum.

oh cheers for this, ive been looking for a new game to play after ROSE online decided to go pay 2 play. Looks quite cute and they seem to have fast servers ( at least for the download) because i managed to download it super quick

Since everyone is recommending games.... I highly recommend "Gunbound" http://www.gunbound.net. It's a strategy shooter game... kind of like worms but you play one "bot". And you have to calculate your shot taking into account angle, wind and distance etc. Super fun game, loads of different bots. Free to play as well with the option of cash only avatars... but you can play on the avatar off servers to have no disadvantage from other people paying.
